The richest 1% of people in the UK now have more wealth than the poorest 55%. UK income inequality is among the highest in the developed world and evidence shows that this is bad for almost everyone.
To most people Frome would appear to be booming. Low unemployment, a thriving art and social scene and a rejuvenated Town centre. Yet many people are still struggling to make ends meet and we now have a well-used Food Bank in the town. Why is this and what are the potential remedies?
Bill Kerry from the Equality Trust will be talking about the work of the Trust and the impacts of inequality nationally and locally.
Marie Porter – Senior Social Care Practitioner Bath and North East Somerset.
Mark Baldwin – Senior Lecturer University of Bath
Mark and Marie will be looking at the impact of recent welfare benefit changes and posing the question: Who loses in Frome and how can residents respond?
Introduced by Mayor of Frome – Peter Macfadyen
