Jazz pianist Graham Dent has a special guest this month, saxophonist Steve Tayton, who, with an engaging fluid, free-wheeling style, is equally at home with bebop, and jazz funk. He’s special because Graham and Steve formed a close jazz collaboration in Coventry in the 1970s and played in several jazz and fusion bands together. Later Steve toured Europe with the electric fusion band Pzazz, for which he began composing seriously. He studied composition and saxophone at Birmingham Conservatoire. On stage he has played with Cilla Black, Level 42 and Ruby Turner, and has appeared on Top of the Pops, the BBC Jazz Club and at Ronnie Scott’s Club. He has published several books including a study of Stan Getz solos, and the music scores of original compositions for saxophone quartets. He currently lives in Dorset and continues to compose and perform with a variety of musicians.
