In this second workshop, we’ll learn about preventing infections without increasing our plastic waste.
How many bottles of antibacterial hand gel have you collected over the past year or so? Did you know that every 100ml plastic bottle of hand gel has required at least 10g of CO2 emissions to produce? Of course there are times when these products have kept us safe, but once Covid risks reduce, we can turn our thoughts to environmentally kinder ways to boost our protection against winter infections.
In this workshop, we’ll focus on what we can do as a first line of defence against common infections, using simple kitchen ingredients, the plant power* and recycled packaging. Together we will be making some (non-alcoholic) fire cider and natural hand gel, which you can take away with you. In addition you’ll receive recipes and handouts about all the herbs we’ll be using.
By working with plants that are available locally to us and in our kitchen cabinets, we can reduce our demand for over-the-counter products with longer supply chains and larger carbon footprints. Besides, plants are master chemists! Come along to share knowledge and enjoy stories whilst making these two items yourself.
*the remedies should be considered as additional tools to help prevent simple infections and not as substitutes for flu or Covid vaccinations or anti-microbial substances where required for infection control.
Please bring a clean glass jar and bottle to take your remedies away in – recycled if you can!
