Frome renews its Fairtrade status

Frome has entered its 13th year as a Fairtrade town by successfully renewing its status with the Fairtrade Foundation. One of the first towns to declare itself a Fairtrade town in 2003, there are now 554 in the UK.

A good proportion of Frome shops and businesses buy, use and sell Fairtrade items.   Last year two local businesses were recognised in the South West Fairtrade Business Awards. The River House gained a silver award and Christina Oswin achieved gold with her use of recycled silver and Fairtrade and Fair-mined gold in all her jewellery.

The South West has its own Fairtrade Business Awards, and there is still time to enter your business if Fairtrade ethics are part of your remit. Entries are accepted until 30 January, you can find out more here. The awards are open to businesses of all sizes as long as you fit the Fairtrade criteria and are based in the South West region (The South West Fairtrade Region spans from Cornwall to Swindon).  Winning categories range from bronze, silver or gold, and if successful, winners receive an e-logo to use on publicity material, a certificate to display and a free ticket to the Awards ceremony!
