Mini Festival of Walks Announced
Those who enjoy guided walks within the local area will be well catered for towards the end of the month.
Frome Guided Walks, run in association with Frome Town Council, are holding a mini-festival of walks on Wednesday 27th July.
The one day event comprises a quartet of guided walks, with subjects covered including stained-glass windows, photography, Folklore, and an alphabetical overview of the town.
Co-organiser David Lassman explains: ‘Through various reasons, we had to cancel a number of walks recently and so thought it would be good to run this one-off mini-festival.
The day begins with ‘Burne-Jones & Trinity’, a walk which will include a visit to the Burne-Jones stained-glass windows at Holy Trinity and also the architecturally important surrounding area.
This is followed by Frome Photo Walking Tour, in which photographer James Bartholomew reveals the best places to photograph around town, including several places normally closed to the public.
Later in the day local storyteller and walking guide Lisa Kenwright will engage participants with a rare outing of ‘Folklore Frome’.
While the final walk of the day, ‘A-Z of Frome’, has been rescheduled from earlier in the month when it was postponed due to the extreme weather.
This alphabetical trip through the town and its history is led by David Lassman and includes C for Camel, T for Tunnels and U for UFOs.
David adds: ‘As well as the Wednesday extravaganza, we also have something special for our final walk of the month.
This takes place on Sunday 31st July and is a two and hour walk out to Whatley Quarry, led by Colin Wisbey, a volunteer at Frome Museum and member of Frome Tunnels Project. It is advised those undertaking this quarry walk have a good level of fitness.
As well as the programmed walks between April and October, Frome Guided Walks undertake bespoke walks, as well as being part of the Town Council’s annual walking festival in November.
