The employment of satire, caricature, speech bubbles and the writing of captions had been around long before 1843 when the word cartoon was first introduced in Punch magazine.

In this well illustrated talk, Ian Keable will track from those early stages of cartoons (as satirical prints) to the gradual evolvement into today’s more familiar format.
