Winterreise – Schubert

On a winter’s night, a young man leaves the comfort of his sweetheart’s family home and subjects himself to a freezing, lonely, unforgiving journey of self-discovery.

Schubert’s own pains and fears, as he composes from his deathbed, are epically depicted through Müller’s poetry of fire and snow, of torrent and ice, of scalding and frozen tears.
