Nora and Torvald Helmer appear happily married, though vibrant yet naïve Nora suffers a crippling dependency on her banker husband. With good intentions and without his knowledge, Nora arranges a loan by forging Torvald’s signature. The inevitable revelation of the crime results in a spectacular confrontation between the couple, as they face the hard truths of what their marriage, and Nora’s life as a wife, mother and daughter, has been.

In one of the most famous and scandalous climaxes in all of nineteenth century drama, Nora leaves her husband, determined to forge a new identity from the one she has always known.

Frank McGuinness’s bold and brilliant version of A Doll’s House received its London premiere in 1996 and opened on Broadway the following year, where it won four Tony Awards.
