Save the Date! Frome’s annual events wrapped

Save the date! 2024 is here and we’re settling in nicely. Now that we’re a few weeks in and recovering from the Christmas period, you may be wondering what this year has to offer. Here in Frome, we are lucky to have creative and committed organisations, groups and communities who put on a whole host of fantastic events throughout the year. If you’re looking to plan ahead, save the date for just a selection of Frome’s annual events:

January

• 28th – Donate IT are back for another tech amnesty. If you’ve any spare, unused or old phones, laptops, tablets or other technological equipment, bring them along to the car park at Frome Town Hall on Sunday 28th January, 10am – 1pm. Donate IT will wipe and refurbish old devices to be handed out to those who need them in the community.

February

• 3rd – Wæs hæl! Drinc hæl! Frome’s Wassail returns to Weylands on 3rd February from 1:30pm. Head on over to help “wake up” the trees with an old Saxon ritual, including banging pots and pans, toast, cider and wassail sticks. Intrigued? You won’t find out until you go!
• 14th – The lighting of the Valentine’s lamp returns for another year with its treasured ceremony. An event that has taken place since 1993, this is a ceremony that is loved and cherished within the community, and brings more from further afield to witness the lighting of the lamp. Check Frome Town Council’s Facebook page closer to the time for more information about the lamp lighting on 14th February.

March

• 1st-4th – Frome’s popular Window Wanderland event will take place from 1st-4th March this year, bringing back the window-framed tour. Stroll around the streets of Frome using the map to find as many window wonders as possible. More details and the map can be found on Window Wanderland’s website.
• 9th – Frome Busks is not to be missed! A fantastic day of live music from solo acts, bands and more, the talented bunch are all Frome College students. More information will be made available on Frome Town Council’s website nearer to the time. 9th March is also the day before Mothering Sunday, so why not make a day of it in Frome? Come along to support budding local talent and finish up with a spot of Mother’s Day shopping or a delicious meal.
• 16th-22nd – The Good Heart are putting on another Kindness Festival this year. Yippee! Their objective is to fill our town to the brim with acts of kindness, celebrating the contribution that simply being kind can have on our lives. Keep up-to-date with the festival over on The Good Heart’s website.

April

• 3rd – Frome’s Annual Town Meeting will take place on 3rd April this year. This meeting is all about celebrating the Mayor, Frome’s council and the community. Keep an eye on Frome Town Council’s website for more details on this years Town Meeting.

June

• 8th-16th – Get stuck into Great Big Green Week, from 8th-16th June this year. Local initiatives will take place to support sustainability, helping to tackle climate change and protect nature. Stay tuned for events happening around the town – last year’s GBGW included a sustainable jewellery exhibition, a nature volunteer day, energy advice drop in and more.

July

• 5th-14th – We’re absolutely delighted that Frome Festival is returning to our streets this July. If you’d like to put on an event, submissions open in February and they are releasing their programme later on in Spring. Head to Frome Festival’s website for more information.
• It seems that July is the month of festivals here in Frome – the Children’s Festival will also be back this year! Hooray! This year is the tenth year of the Children’s Festival in Frome, run by incredible local charity Purple Elephant. Keep an eye on Purple Elephant’s website for date announcement and activity line-up. You don’t want to miss this fantastic free community event.

August

• Keeping with the kids activities theme, national Play Day is due to take place again this August. Traditionally, Play Day happens on the first Wednesday of the month, but double check Frome Town Council’s website for details closer to the time, as well as their Play Strategy. September

• September is a great month for important Frome events – particularly the beloved Frome Carnival! The carnival completely relies on donations to their charity to keep the event going year to year, as well as volunteers to oversee fundraising and the carnival itself. Find out how you could help support Frome Carnival and look out for more information on the Frome Street Carnival website.
• 14th – Cheese, agriculture, more cheese, entertainment, cheese… sound familiar? The Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show graces the West Woodlands showground for another cheese-filled action-packed day on 14th September. More information and tickets will be available later in the year over on the Cheese Show website.

November

• 10th – Every year, Frome commemorates Remembrance with a parade and service. This year, Remembrance Sunday takes place on 10th November, with the parade and service at the Memorial on Christchurch Street West. Frome Town Council’s website will have more information on details closer to the date.
• November is generally the month that hosts Frome’s Walking Festival – 2023 saw 18 walks over the course of three days, 14 of which were free. Take the opportunity this year to do the same, get out and enjoy our lovely spaces in and around Frome. Frome Town Council and Discover Frome will release the schedule nearer to the event – keep an eye on Discover Frome’s website.
• 22nd – The ever-popular Light the Night is back for its 7th year on the 22nd November! Complete with a beautifully themed lantern parade and Christmas light switch on, this evening truly kicks off Christmas in Frome. Mel and Aliss run lantern-making workshops every year in the lead up to the event, so make sure to check Frome Lanterns website for workshop details and more information around the night.
