Local charity Fair Frome is holding an open evening to celebrate Living Wage Week, starting at 6pm on Wednesday 2 November at the Cheese & Grain (upstairs meeting room). The event is aimed at all local accredited Living Wage employers, and those organisations who may be looking to know more about the Living Wage.
The evening will include a brief presentation from Fair Frome and discussion with other accredited employers about how the town can work together to raise awareness of and increase visibility and benefits of being a Living Wage employer in Frome.
Bob Ashford Chair of Trustees at Fair Frome says: “One of Fair Frome’s aims is to tackle the causes of poverty. Currently 32.3% of employees in Mendip are earning less than the real Living Wage and two areas of Frome are below the bottom 20% of poverty indices. Currently over 3,000 employers in the UK pay the Living Wage including major and independent employers in Frome. The benefits to businesses, employees and customers of paying the Living Wage are well proven. For instance, 70% of customers say they would prefer to shop at Living Wage employers and paying the Living Wage improves recruitment and employee retention and productivity. Paying the Living Wage is purely voluntary but the increasing numbers of employers who are becoming Living Wage employers demonstrate the benefits. The evening is open to all employers large or small who may be interested.”
