Musicke in the Ayre present a happy hour of early Italian Baroque works for up to three sopranos. This all-female format pioneered by the Este court in Ferrara started a fashion that inspired composers such as Monteverdi and Rossi and helped pave the way for Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini.
Din Ghani will use archlute and baroque guitar (all made by him) to accompany Maria Danishvar, Philippa Neaverson and Jane Hunt in recreating a striking soundscape of the Seicento.
Founded in 2011 by Din to exercise his passion for using period plucked instruments (mostly built by himself) to accompany small-scale vocal music of the Renaissance and the Baroque, Musicke in the Ayre have given over 165 concerts across the country and on the Continent. Each concert involves one or more members of Musicke in the Ayre’s singing team which is spread across the UK and abroad. Maria, Philippa and Jane, well-known in this area, form a core local to Din who is based in Dilton Marsh. They have enabled Din to explore this wonderful repertory (especially the rarely performed works for 3 sopranos) and have worked with him for over a decade. This is Musicke in the Ayre’s fifth appearance in Frome Festival.
