Frome Museum reopening with a brand new major exhibition
From 11th March, Frome Museum will be reopening to the public following from their annual winter closure with new opening hours. The museum will be open from Tuesday – Saturday, 11am – 3pm, as well as Independent Market Sundays. They will also offer a late afternoon opening on Thursdays, when the museum will remain open until 5pm. Entry will continue to be free and donations much appreciated, as the running of the museum relies solely on its team of dedicated volunteers and donations.
The museum’s volunteers have been hard at work over the winter, revitalising the galleries, improving displays and interpretation. The chemist’s shop, previously visible only through a window, will be open for visitors to step inside and explore the newly displayed and illuminated exhibits up close. The newly formed Children’s Working Group has also been busy making the museum more engaging for younger visitors with a new dressing-up area, fun quizzes and trails.
The new major exhibition at the museum looks at the history of Frome’s Trinity area from the earliest times, focusing on The Great Clearance. The Great Clearance was a 1960s enforced demolition of swathes of historic properties that were considered at the time no more than worthless slums. The exhibition sheds light on a pivotal moment in Frome’s social and civic history, illustrating how these events shaped the town’s development and its sense of independent community.
Trinity, Part 1: The Great Clearance, 1962 – 1968 opens at Frome Museum on Tuesday 11th March 2025. Entry is free, donations appreciated.
