Barbara Strozzi, born 400 years ago in Venice, was rare and remarkable: a gifted composer with more works published than any of her male contemporaries of the early Italian Baroque. Locally-based early music specialists Musicke in the Ayre return to the Festival with an anniversary programme with adorable arias and delicious duets by her, and by her teacher Francesco Cavalli, and by Claudio Monteverdi, both big names in Venice then. Sopranos Jane Hunt and Maria Danishvar, accompanied by Din Ghani on archlute, will transport you to 17th century Venice. Licensed bar available.
