Cardiac Risk in the Young have organised these tests. A simple way to diagnose most cardiac abnormalities is a quick and painless procedure called an electrocardiogram (ECG) The machine picks up and records the electrical signals that make your heart beat. Small sticky patches (electrodes) are placed on your chest, arms or legs and connected to the ECG machine to record the rhythm and electrical activity of your heart. A printout of your heart’s electrical activity can then be taken for evaluation by our cardiologists. An echocardiogram is a similar ultrasound to that used in pregnancy. As the sound waves echo against various parts of the heart they are recorded on a screen. This provides a detailed picture of your heart’s structure and how well it is functioning.
