Appalachian ‘flatfooting’ Step-dance Workshop by ‘Buffalo Gals’ lead dancer Sibs Riesen – a percussive Appalachian Flatfoot and Buckdance performer with the Buffalogals old-time country string band, dance workshop teacher, and multiple winner of the Friends of American Old Time Music and Dance contest. Her style is unusually and delightfully flamboyant and syncopated. Her principal mentor is Ira Bernstein, one of the world’s premier American step dancers.
Flatfooting is a freestyle form of percussive dance originating in the Appalachian mountains of the USA -using the toes, heels and ball of the foot to strike and slide across the floor, flatfooting enables the dancer to ‘drum out’ the rhythms of mountain fiddle and banjo music and become the percussion.
No experience necessary: wear comfortable flat shoes, preferably leather soled.
Complete beginners are welcome – all ages – and if you have done tap-dancing then this is a MUST for you.
Come and experience the joy of being a freestyle foot musician and ‘drummer’.
