Band goes interstellar at the Westway Cinema

The Westway Cinema plays host to an astrophysicist and local band Rivers Of England as they celebrate the launch of their 2nd album ‘Astrophysics Saved My Life’ with a night of science, songs and shenanigans.

Lead singer Rob Spalding who will also be hosting the launch said the album’s title is inspired by his love of science. “I just love how looking up and out into the universe makes me feel and the improved perspective it gives things.” To satisfy his desire to mix science with music, Rob got in touch with Doctor Carolin Villforth lecturer in astrophysics at the University of Bath – who was delighted to have a chance to present her subject of supermassive black holes to a wider audience using the cinema screen.

Rivers Of England have an unlikely ‘folk n roll’ pedigree with the new album featuring former Robert Plant guitarist Innes Sibun (who will make an appearance at the launch). They been shortlisted for the Glastonbury Emerging talent contest and have their music played in operating theatres, hosted parties on river boats and are often spotted driving around in Ludwig their beloved tour bus.

In addition to the band playing their new album the party will also include comedy from actor Simon Capes, music from The AAA Revue, art from Ed Young (Apple On The Moon) and stunning landscape photography used in the band’s latest video by Martin Tompkins. The new album leads on from the success of their first album Of Trivial And Gargantuan. They will also be following the launch with a tour of Britain and Germany, and have been described as “Immersive, inspired, simple but impressive folk-rock that is quintessentially English.”
