Ubuntu
One of the most powerful expressions that finds its roots in Southern Africa is Ubuntu. The simplest translation is: “I am because we are”.
This runs in the hearts and minds of Southern Africans around the world, and we invite you to join us in the Spirit of Ubuntu this Christmas.
Christmas in Southern Africa is hot (sometimes a bit wet), but it is a day for a Christmas braai (bbq) and to spend time with the family around the swimming pool. There always seems to be a watermelon bobbing in the pool, which is the best way to keep it cool!
Southern Africans around the South West would love to celebrate our love of life and the warmth that comes from our DNA at this very chilly time of the year.
Please join us for a ‘Celebrate Christmas Market’ at the Frome Masonic Hall on Friday 26th November from 4pm to 9pm.
This is an opportunity to find some unique African inspired gifts for your loved ones, handmade items from Africa and to enjoy some of our delicious traditional foods (biltong, milktart, koeksisters and loads more).
The bar will be open, so pop in before or after the Christmas Lights Switch On for a drink, Christmas shopping and some African vibes.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please email Dawn Denton on dawn@celebratesouthernafrica.com and find Celebrate Southern Africa on Facebook and Instagram.
We are in the process of redeveloping the Discover Frome website, and invite you to share your views on the current site with us.
