A concert performance of the earliest English opera, accompanied by a small band of instruments conducted by Alan Burgess. Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell is based on an extract from Virgil’s Aeneid. Look out for much dramatic variety: cackling witches, drunken sailors, an off-stage echo chorus and one of the most beautiful and poignant arias in the repertoire, “Dido’s lament”. The parts of Dido and Aeneas will be sung by soloists, Steph Collishaw and Gareth Burgess. Tickets £12 (concessions £10/ students £5)
