Raise a glass to spring!
This workshop hopes to inspire you with the confidence to go out into your hedgerows, identifying the best of the local British season and making your very own amazing brews to impress at any occasion or just to enjoy in the summer sun.
Professional forager George Linklater will introduce you to the delights of hedgerow brews. We will begin with a walk around Rodden Meadow looking closely at the elder tree and other common hedgerow plants and shrubs and how to identify them. You will learn their uses historically in brewing, some different recipes and types of brews.
We will also discuss the benefits of the slow food movement, wild ingredients, how to use ferments and how all these can both benefit us and the natural environment. We will also touch upon the wide range of potential for using fermentation and preserves in our day to day lives.
We will then head to a designated spot, where you will be guided through the process of making and safely bottling elderflower champagne. To finish the afternoon, you will also have a tasting where you will get to sample this wonderful beverage along with a range of other fantastic foraged canapés to try.
Guests get to take home a 1 bottle of Elderflower champagne (plastic bottle for safety).
