Food & Community Setting up a Community Food Co-op/Community Food Venture

A workshop for residents, groups and entrepreneurs interested in starting a community food co-op, a buying group, or community food ventures.

A food co-op can save its members up to 40% off their weekly food costs, and give access to quality groceries at very affordable prices. The cost of living crisis makes it more important than ever to come together with others and explore how we can improve access to affordable, quality food at the local level.

The workshop is run by Edventure Frome and Frome Food Network with contributions from Cooperation Town – a national network helping people set up food co-ops , and support from Frome Town Council and Somerset County Council.

Everyone can get involved and take initiative with their friends, neighborhood networks, and employers.

Besides the expert contributors that we have invited, everyone makes the day, and as participants, you will be invited to contribute your own experiences and ideas. The workshop combines short presentations, space for questions and small group discussions. Fully funded, follow-up start-up support is offered to all attendees.

Contributors:

Cooperation Town – A representative from the national food co-op network will talk through how to set up a food co-op, and share insights from the national movement of food cooperatives.

Frome Food Network – Hugh Thomas, food writer and initiator of the Frome Food Network.

Custom Food Lab – Artist and producer Cherry Truluck with a short presentation about how food brings community together

Future Shed. Sue Palmer from Edventure’s Future Shed and Hugh Thomas will facilitate a discussion on what the gaps and opportunities are for community food initiatives.
