Frome Symphony’s new concert season opens with Beethoven’s Egmont overture, written during the Napoleonic wars as part of a series of incidental music for Goethe’s play of the same name. The orchestra is then joined by soprano Bryony Soothill for a performance of Mozart’s uplifting solo motet Exsultate Jubilate. Bryony joins the orchestra again in the second half of the concert in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Mahler’s most delicate and accessible symphony, the fourth’s final movement features the song Das himmlische Leben (“The Heavenly Life”) which represents a child’s view of heaven. Tickets £12 (adult), £5 (under 18).
