FROME SPORT & FITNESS OPEN DAY EVENT WITH ACTIVITIES FOR ALL
EVENT TO INCLUDE FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE ORGANISED BY MEMBER FOR AIR AMBULANCE THAT HELPED SAVED HIS LIFE
On Saturday 24th February locals will come together to ‘Get Sportaneous’ at Frome Sport & Fitness. The activity day is being organised by Fusion Lifestyle and member, Mike MacCallam.
Last August, centre member Mike, had a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest at Frome Sport & Fitness. The team at the centre carried out emergency, lifesaving treatment, before the crew of the Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire Air Ambulance arrived to transport him to hospital in Bristol.
Mike has made a full recovery and wants to give back to the people who helped him. On Saturday 24th February three teams of his friends and family will gather at the leisure centre to complete a challenge to run and cycle 200 miles, the distance from Frome to Lands End, in just 8 hours. George Brint, team leader and fitness instructor at the centre, who carried out lifesaving treatment on Mike when he was taken ill, will also be taking part. The challenge has reached its fundraising target of £3,500, the average cost of an Air Ambulance call out, and participants are now aiming to exceed this total and raise even more money.
Fusion Lifestyle, who operate the centre, are increasing fundraising opportunities further by opening the centre doors to the community for the day.
Visitors will have the opportunity to try something new, explore the fantastic facilities, take part in taster sessions, or test their sporty skills with a host of imaginative and fun challenges with great prizes on offer. The whole day is designed for everyone of all abilities to just dive in, have a go and best of all – have fun! Locals are also encouraged to pop in and cheer on the challenge participants too, supporting them throughout the day.
Free activities on offer include an introduction to group cycle, a Fun & Floats Family Swim session, Swim School taster sessions for adults and free gym sessions from 8am – 4pm. There will also be balloon sales, massages, and a cake sale, with a percentage of sales going to charity.
Anthony Cawley, CEO at Fusion, commented: “Getting active is important for everyone and our Get Sportaneous open day is a great opportunity for our teams to meet and greet the local community, offer their support and expertise, and showcase the wide range of activities on offer. The event at Frome is particularly important as it gives us an opportunity to work together with a member who has a very close link to our centre and to the Air Ambulance. We are expecting it to be a really busy and fun day and we hope plenty of money is raised for this great cause.”
