Palestine has a young and dynamic population, whose life under occupation is generally appalling. Frome Friends of Palestine are delighted to be hosting Silent Voices, a touring exhibition of photographs taken by Palestinian youngsters from Bil’in, in the West Bank. We will also be displaying photographs from the Tale of Two Towns exhibition, taken by students at Frome College and in al-Arroub, in the Palestinian West Bank, and much more besides.
And if that’s not enough, we’re screening two important films. On Thursday February 25, we’ve gotFive Broken Cameras, an award-winning documentary co-directed by Palestinian Emad Burnat and Israeli Guy Davidi. It is a first-hand account of protests in Bil’in, shot almost entirely by Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat, who bought his first camera in 2005 to record the birth of his youngest son. Then on Sunday February 28, we’re showingThe Stones Cry Out, a powerful 2013 film by Yasmine Perni. Christianity was born in Palestine, but the voices of Palestinian Christians have all too often been drowned out in the turmoil of events. This is their story, in their voices, from the Nakba of 1948 until today.
The exhibition runs from Wednesday February 24 until Tuesday March 1, every day from 10am until 4pm. Both films start at 7:30 and entry is by donation. All events are held at The Bennett Centre, Vicarage Street, Frome BA11 1PU.Next door to the Silk Mill, opposite the auction rooms and St John’s Church.
