On September 27th, Naima Bock will release Below a Massive Dark Land worldwide through Sub Pop and Memorials of Distinction. Her second album, Below… comes as the follow up to Giant Palm, one of 2022’s most critically acclaimed debuts.
The success of Naima’s debut, Giant Palm, led to a mammoth period of touring. With headline tours including London’s EartH and support shows for artists such as A. Savage, J Mascis, Squid, Rodrigo Amarante, Arab Strap, Katy J Pearson, This is the Kit, and more, Naima’s feet have hardly touched the ground since 2022.
Today, fresh off the back of a solo tour with Porridge Radio’s Dana Margolin, Naima has also announced international tour dates for the summer and autumn of 2024 to support Below a Massive Dark Land.
“Pushed to excellence by sensitive arrangements that build raw, personal lyrics into climaxes where every emotional nuance can be intimately shared by the listener”9/10 The Line of Best Fit“When its complexities are allowed to expand it will reward its listener tenfold”The Quietus ‘Music of the Month’“What is abundantly clear is that Bock’s creative star is very much with her”8/10 Uncut“Reinforces the gravitas of her songwriting. A beautiful record dominated by fading light and ominous shadows, it could well be your perfect Autumn soundtrack.”8/10 Clash‘4/5’ Mojo“An album of strange charm and character, which wears its originality lightly”4/5 The Times“Bock’s simple knack for melody, coupled with the richness of the arrangements, gives depth and colour to even the starkest devastation”4/5 Our Culture“The true jewel here is Bock’s voice; its natural lilt, the way it manages to portray so much feeling like a mere note could bring a tear to the eye”4/5 Far Out“A folky hymn to regret with a lovely, loping pace and sweetly lazy horn refrain”The Guardian
