Pip is one of the Merlin’s regulars. His award-winning performances of Adolf, Chaplin, Maggie, Churchill, Hunchback and Dickens have begun there and gone on to tour around the world to great acclaim. He recently received the Stage Special Award for Excellence and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Turkish Ministry of culture for his contribution to World Theatre.
His new moving and affectionate performance is about the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease, not only on the sufferer but o family, friends and carers. Pip is renowned for his ability to ‘break the fourth wall’ and speak directly with the audience, involving them with the emotions, sharing the highs and the lows, making them an essential part of the performance. This play is no different.
Based on his and his brother’s experiences of seeing their mum deteriorate and die from Alzheimer’s three years after being diagnosed at 68, and on Pip’s intensive research, Pip’s character takes the audience on a journey full of smiles, laughter, respect and tears.
