If you’re free on a Tuesday afternoon, why not come to Jackdaws Songbirds, a friendly, informal singing group, led by Caroline Radcliffe. The new term begins on Tuesday 3 January 2017 and is open to all singers! The group is for adults, but you are most welcome to bring babies and preschool children to the session. We meet weekly during term time to sing together in a relaxed environment. There are no auditions, and no previous singing or music experience is required! Songs are taught by ear. Music notation is available to those who read, but reading isn’t necessary. Our aim is to enjoy singing together in harmony and to explore different types of music: traditional, modern and world.
The group meets on Tuesdays from 1.30pm- 2.45pm at St Catharine’s church hall, Park Road, Frome. We sing for an hour, and provide toys for the children to play with. We don’t expect the children to be quiet, and we don’t expect full attention from parents! In a typical session, children may play on their own for a bit, require some attention for a bit, and may even listen in now and then. At 2.30pm the toys are cleared away and we sing a few songs with the children.
There is also an evening group on Wednesdays from 7.40pm-9.10pm. This is very similar to the afternoon group, minus the babies and toddlers. This group meets at St John’s school, Christchurch Street East. For both groups, the first session is free, and then there is a suggested donation of £5 for each session you attend. So why not come along and have a go?
