Part of Frome’s Walking Festival 2019.
At its height J.W.Singer & Sons Art Metal Works employed up to 700 people and cast statues, war memorials, and decorative metalwork that can be found across the country and around the globe. Join Frome Town Guide Lisa Kenwright for a guided walk that will take in some of the important places in John Webb Singer’s life and tell the story of his foundry and some of his most famous works.
The route loops around the town centre, climbs the hill to St John’s Church and finishes at the Memorial Theatre on Christchurch Street West. There are several steps and please be aware that our route will include some steep cobbled streets.
This walk was originally created for Casting the World by project curator Sue Bucklow. A free leaflet describing the main places on the trail is available from Discover Frome where you can also buy Casting the World, her book about J.W Singer and the foundry.
Led by Frome Town Guide Lisa Kenwright, this walk is approximately three quarters of a mile.
