Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, many villages could boast a band. The musicians accompanied singing in church but also played for dancing, as well as leading the way at the Whitsun Club Walk and militia parades. An Hour with the Somerset Russets offers a window into the life and music of the old bands, mixing music, images and readings from contemporary accounts and literary sources. The second half will be an open folk session, so do bring along your instruments and voices and join in! Ticket includes light bites. Bar.
