A short guided walk along the river in Frome, Somerset that will explore the history of the local textile industry.
The River Frome gave its name to the town of Frome, Somerset and was a vital resource for the mills and associated trades of the textile industry over hundreds of years. Join Frome Town Guide Lisa Kenwright for a short walk along the river to hear about how the river and surrounding landscape of the town was shaped by this industry.
This is a short taster walk being run in conjunction with the Frome Weavers, Spinners & Dyers for the Open Day at their studio in Tuckers Close on Saturday May 13th.
The walk is free, but we do ask you to book a ticket for each member of your party age 5 and over so that we can manage numbers.
Please note that we will meet in Justice Lane outside the gates of Black Swan Arts. The main walk will finish at Rodden Meadow, a gentle, flat walk of approx 400m, mostly on pavement and tarmac path with a short rough stretch which can be muddy in wet weather.
There will then be an option to walk on to the Open Day of the Frome Weavers, Spinners & Dyers at Tuckers Mill.
Children are welcome on the walk and at the Open Day, but must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian. The studio is up two flights of stairs with no lift access.
We are in the process of redeveloping the Discover Frome website, and invite you to share your views on the current site with us.
