Frome Museum is delighted to invite you to our major new exhibition, Trinity: The Great Clearance, 1962–1968.
This is the first part of a two-part exhibition exploring the history of Frome’s Trinity area from the earliest times to the slum clearances of the 1960s. Part 1: The Great Clearance examines the plans for large-scale demolition of historic properties in the 1960s — properties once dismissed as slums but now recognised as an irreplaceable part of the town’s heritage. This exhibition sheds light on a pivotal chapter in Frome’s social and civic history, revealing how these events shaped the town’s development and its independent community spirit.
You’ll also have the chance to see the improvements our dedicated team has made over the winter, including enhanced displays, new interpretation, re-carpeting, repainting, and upgraded lighting. The chemist’s shop is now fully accessible for visitors to step inside and explore newly-displayed exhibits up close. Our Children’s Working Group has introduced a new dressing-up area, fun quizzes and trails to make the museum more engaging for our younger visitors.
Our new opening hours this year are Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 3pm, plus Independent Market Sundays. Every Thursday we offer late afternoon opening, when we remain open until 5pm.
