Valentine Gas Lamp Lighting Ceremony

Come rain or come shine, every year on 14th February, local residents gather at the top of Catherine Hill and watch as Frome’s Valentine Lamp is lit.

The famous ceremony has been celebrated in the town for over 25 years, and this year will be no different. At 6pm the lamp lighter, dressed in period costume, will start the ceremony using the original lamp lighter’s pole.

There will be mulled wine for adults and fresh fruit for the youngsters to enjoy before heading off for the rest of your evening.

The Valentine Lamp is the only working gas lamp in Somerset and is dedicated to the memory of St Valentine. It also has a renovated George V post box attached for your love letter or card.

Arrive at 5.30pm for a prompt 6pm start.
