Events Calendar Round-up: July 2024

July is probably the busiest month of the year in Frome, packed with events for all tastes, interests and ages so open those diaries and get booking!

We’ve selected a few highlights to give you a taster of what’s on, but for the full run down, have a look through our events calendar or pop in to the Discover Frome Information Point.

What’s on throughout July

3rd July: Wood Carving Workshop for Women

Join Back to Nature CIC for a Nature Connection Workshop for Women where you can learn simple techniques in woodworking and bushcraft to carve out a spatula using freshly harvested wood.

Sessions are designed to help foster a connection to nature, yourself and others and to get the most benefits for your health and well-being. Held every other Wednesday, 7-9pm, these sessions will be running until the end of September, outdoors at Vallis Veg, an 18-acre organic farm on the outskirts of Frome.

5th July: Extended Health Walk – Frome Walking Wheel

Walk the five mile inner ring of the Frome Walking Wheel at a gentle pace and enjoy a refreshment break at Trinity Church.

7th July: The Frome Independent @ Frome Festival

The Frome Independent is an award winning, destination street market, reclaiming Frome’s high street once a month to showcase the best independent craftspeople, designers, makers, food producers and vintage traders in the South West.

In this special July market, Frome Festival will takeover the market with music, drama, dance and performances of all shapes and sizes. Explore the street and find amazing activities at every turn!

5th – 14th July: Frome Festival

The Frome Festival is a community/arts festival which takes place over 10 days every July. Frome will come alive with music, art and culture as the Festival returns for its 23rd year.

With over 200 events taking place across 10 days, the Festival aims to celebrate the best of Frome, with events and activities taking place in so many places and spaces across the town – from venues and galleries to pubs and parks.

12th – 14th July: Hidden Gardens

Frome is taking part in Great Big Green Week once again from Saturday 8th to Sunday 16th June. As part of the UK-wide event, Frome’s Great Big Green Week features 40 events for all ages running across Frome, exploring and celebrating all things eco-friendly, nature based and sustainable. Many events are based in and around the town’s green spaces, highlighting the action Frome is taking to tackle the climate emergency.

6th – 14th July: Open Art Trail

Emerging and established artists and makers open their studios, homes and venues to show and sell their work. Support Frome’s creative community and discover paintings, sculpture, textiles, glass, ceramics, jewellery and so much more.

Discover the full trail by downloading a virtual brochure, which will be available through the Frome Festival website soon, or by picking up a free brochure at the Cheese & Grain, Black Swan Arts, the Library, the Town Hall or many shops and cafes in Frome and surrounding villages.

25th July: Michael Rosen

Award-winning Children’s Author, Michael Rosen returns for a 50th Anniversary show at The Cheese and Grain, Frome this summer!
The Somerset school summer holidays will be marked with a very special performance with the return of one of the world’s best-selling children’s authors and poet, Michael Rosen on Thursday 25th July!
The event includes a Q&A plus book signing.
2024 marks 50 years of Michael performing live. It’s also the anniversary of his first ever published collection of children’s poems in the famed, ‘Mind Your Own Business’ released in 1974.
To celebrate, local organsiers have teamed up with Frome illustrator/artist, Cole Henley to produce a 50th anniversary poster! Cole Henley was the leading artist in his joint collaboration with Michael Rosen’s, ‘You’re Thinking About Tomatoes’.
Michael Rosen’s performance in 2023 was a huge hit, selling our two back-to-back shows at The Cheese and Grain!
With over 140 books published and 55 million views on his YouTube Channel ‘Kids Poems and Stories with Michael Rosen’, the Number 1 selling children’s author is all set to return to the Cheese and Grain!
