Frome Skatepark Project, a community group raising funds for a new skatepark in Frome, is excited to announce a Skate Jam at Victoria Park on Saturday, 28th September, from 1pm to 5pm.

This vibrant community event, organised in conjunction with Frome Town Council kicks off a wider public consultation on Victoria Park, inviting local residents to share their ideas and visions for this vital public space. Frome Town Council staff will be on hand to talk to all park users, and there will be garden games and fun activities to keep children busy while you chat. Further activities are planned in Victoria Park as part of the consultation: details to be confirmed.

The event promises a day of excitement and fun for the entire family, with best trick competitions and music creating an energetic atmosphere. All wheeled sports enthusiasts, including skateboarders, roller skaters, scooter riders, and BMX bikers, are welcome to join in the activities. The Skate Jam is open to all ages and abilities, encouraging everyone to take part, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete beginner.

Ed Bucklow, 18, one of the founders of Frome Skatepark Project said: “Frome is in desperate need of a new skatepark, and we can’t wait to canvas opinion on our proposals for Frome skatepark from Frome’s wheeled sports community. The skate jam promises to be a great day, and I encourage everyone who uses the park, or wants to see the facilities improved to come along, have some fun – and most importantly – have your say!”

Wheeled sports offer numerous benefits for young people, providing not only a thrilling way to stay active but also fostering a sense of community, resilience, and creativity. Participating in activities like skateboarding, BMX, and scootering helps young people develop physical fitness, coordination, and balance, while also promoting mental well-being through stress relief and the joy of outdoor activity. Moreover, these sports encourage self-expression and perseverance as participants continually challenge themselves to learn new tricks and skills.

The Skate Jam aims to showcase and celebrate the vibrant wheeled sports culture in Frome while gathering valuable feedback from the community on the current skatepark and Frome Skatepark Project’s proposals for the skatepark. So, grab your skateboard, roller skates, scooter or BMX and head to Victoria Park on 28th September for a day of fun, competition, and community spirit!
