What’s on throughout August
Throughout August – Maize Maze
A living 4-acre maze shaped like a dinosaur! A fantastic day out for the whole family. Afterwards, why not reward yourself with a delicious ice-cream from the parlour, made fresh on site.
The maize maze runs until 1st September, followed by pick-your-own sunflowers (subject to successful growing). Keep an eye on Palette and Pasture’s social media for growing updates.
Throughout August – Black Swan Arts Open Art Exhibition
One of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in the South West is now on show at Black Swan Arts. This exhibition has been judged and curated by an extraordinary and committed team of art professionals, representing some of the country’s most progressive art institutions.
Whilst you’re there, head over to Frome Museum to witness artists in residence until 1st September. The residencies will showcase the work of young local artists. whose pieces will be shown in the stunning surroundings of the museum’s cantilevered stone staircase.
Black Swan’s open art exhibition runs until 15th September.
16th – 18th August – Frome Walking Festival
The Walking Festival returns! Choose from a variety of 18 walks over 3 days, spanning heritage, history, wellbeing, dance and much more. 11 of the walks are free.

18th August – Adventures At… The Museum
For one afternoon, and one afternoon only… Frome Museum are creating a remarkable time-travelling trail through local history.
Step inside to meet a wonderful bunch of characters from different periods in Frome’s history. You’ll complete challenges, get hands-on with historical objects, and be part of an amazing story. Make sure to book your free slot!
18th August – Frome Running Festival – 5k, 10k and Half Marathon
Perhaps accelerate your Walking Festival to the next level – Frome’s Running Festival on Sunday 18th August. There are three different runs taking place, all beginning and ending at the Old Showfield. The 5k and 10k routes both stay within Frome, whereas the Half Marathon route branches out into surrounding villages.
If you aren’t taking part, come along and cheer on the runners! All donations and proceeds go towards Dorothy House Hospice.
Please note, there are road closures in place for most of the day to facilitate these runs. Please head to Frome Running Festival’s website to see full details of the road closures.
19th and 30th – 31st August – Bridging Nature Summer Camps
Learn woodland ways from tracking animals, concealment, storytelling around the fire, catapult shooting, outdoor cooking and so much more – explore and engage with nature.
Offering day camps and overnight camps, these days out in the woodland will be an awesome way to connect, make new friends and learn wilderness survival skills on a whole other level.
20th August – SS&L Art in the Park
Join Somerset Skills and Learning in Victoria Park for a couple of hours of arts and crafts. Suitable for children aged 3-8 with families, bring a picnic and get making!
This drop-in session will include making clay boats, underwater sea creatures, forest faces using foliage and found natural items and much more.
22nd and 29th August – Play Trolley on tour!
The popular Play Trolley with The Pod charity is going on tour, bringing weird and wonderful scrap to green spaces around Frome for some fun and imaginative play.
No booking necessary – just bring some suitable footwear and your creativity!
The session on 22nd will be in Brunel Green, Stonebridge. The 29th August session will take place at Milk Street Green.
23rd August – SS&L Where the Wild Things Are workshop
Embark on a family learning adventure with Max in his little boat and embrace your inner ‘wild thing’.
Following the classic story book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak, you and your little one can get fully involved with the story through role-play, movement and craft activities.
24th August – Frome Selwood Horticultural Society Flower Show 2024
This year is the 54th annual flower show from the Frome Selwood Horticultural Society.
Displaying an abundance of flowers, vegetables, shrubs and other foliage as well as homemade cakes, jams and photography.
27th August – Summer Walk ‘n’ Talk
For young people aged 13+ to walk with a professional and discuss their mental health, tackle stigma and help them think about their wellbeing whilst exercising.

30th August – SS&L Story Activity Morning ‘Mog in the Dark’
Come on a family learning adventure as we return to meet Mog and her family as she explores her dark garden.
Enjoy Mog’s sweet and funny escapades with her imagination and explore different ways of reading together.
31st August – Super Roots Go Kart Derby
Bring the family, a picnic and let’s get imaginative with scrap materials, designing and building go-karts that will race through a hay bale course!
You don’t need to build a go-kart to join in the fun either. Just pack a picnic, choose your favourite team, and make some banners to cheer them on.
